Inclusion at DPSBN

Inclusive Education at DPSBN

At Delhi Public School BN (DPSBN), our philosophy is deeply rooted in the belief that every child is unique and has the right to grow in an environment that nurtures their individuality, creativity, and innate potential. We are committed to providing a caring, supportive, and inclusive learning space where moral, social, emotional, physical, and intellectual growth are equally valued. We aim to empower every student with the cognitive skills and personal confidence necessary to make informed choices, discover their own strengths, and contribute positively to society.

From the very first interaction with a prospective student, we view education not as a one size-fits-all process, but as a collaborative journey where each child’s pace, interests, and abilities are respected. We believe that every child deserves access to quality education in a regular school setting, regardless of their abilities or challenges.

Admission Philosophy and Readiness

In keeping with our vision of fostering inclusive education, DPSBN strives to welcome children from varied backgrounds, abilities, and communities into shared learning spaces that help maximize the potential of both individuals and the group as a whole. Admission is granted when children are ready for the school environment, which means they can benefit from and actively participate in our structured learning environment. This readiness is not seen as a barrier, but rather a starting point—and we provide guidance, orientation, and support to help children prepare for the demands of school life.

Our admission policy reflects our core belief that diversity in the classroom strengthens the learning experience for all. We welcome students with different physical, intellectual, emotional, social, and linguistic needs, provided they are school ready and able to benefit from our larger inclusive setup. This includes children with learning disabilities, physical impairments, low vision, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and other developmental or medical needs.

Inclusive Classroom Practices

Creating a truly inclusive school environment requires more than just open admissions—it
calls for a system that adapts to meet students’ varied needs. At DPSBN, curriculum
flexibility, accommodations, adaptations, and exemptions are implemented across all
grades.
Our special educators work closely with classroom teachers to design personalized strategies
that can be seamlessly integrated into regular lessons. These strategies may include
differentiated instruction, modified assignments, and alternative methods of assessment. We
also maintain strong partnerships with external organizations and professional networks to
ensure timely assessments, diagnoses, and interventions for students who require
specialized support.
Based on expert recommendations, our school provides a wide range of academic and
examination accommodations, including:
• Reading assistance
• Scribes during examinations
• Extended time for tests
• Curriculum exemptions where appropriate
• Alternative seating arrangements
• Access to vocational subjects for skill-based learning and future employability

Learning Methods and Student Support

Creating a truly inclusive school environment requires more than just open admissions—it
calls for a system that adapts to meet students’ varied needs. At DPSBN, curriculumWe believe that learning should be active, engaging, and relevant to students’ lives. Our
teaching practices incorporate:
• Experiential learning, where students learn through real-life applications
• Cooperative learning, which promotes teamwork and peer interaction
• Art-based techniques, encouraging creative expression as a learning tool
• Peer tutoring and peer educator programs, where students support each other’s
academic growth
• Pre-vocational training to prepare students for real-world skills and employment
Recognizing that first-generation learners often need additional help to bridge educational
gaps, we arrange special classes to ensure that no child is left behind academically or
socially.

Outreach and Social Responsibility

In addition to our main school program, DPSBN operates the Anubhav Shiksha Kendra on
campus. This initiative offers free, high-quality education to children from economically
disadvantaged backgrounds. These students have access to the same facilities, teachers, and
resources as other students in the school. To address nutritional needs, free daily meals are
provided, ensuring that hunger is never an obstacle to learning.

Creating an Empathetic School Culture

Inclusion thrives when the entire school community understands and values it. Our
counsellors conduct regular sensitization sessions for all classes, educating students about
various disabilities and the importance of offering the right kind of social, emotional, and
physical help to peers. Each student with special needs is paired with a volunteer or shadow
who offers consistent guidance and support.
We also act as a centre for the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS), offering a
structured timetable for NIOS students. These students attend regular school alongside their
peers and participate in specialized Saturday training sessions designed to improve exam
readiness. This program ensures that students with low IQ or certain disabilities, who may not
be able to follow the mainstream curriculum, still benefit from peer interaction and the
social aspects of schooling, both of which are essential for personality development.

Teamwork and Professional Collaboration

Our approach to inclusion is multidisciplinary. DPSBN’s inclusive framework is supported
by a dedicated team that includes:
• Counsellors
• Special Educators
• Occupational Therapist
• Rehabilitation Psychologist
• Yoga Therapists
• Art Therapists
• Resource Teachers
• Empathetic Classroom Educators
We actively involve parents in the process—many volunteer as shadow teachers or join
support networks, creating a community-based model of inclusion where families support
each other.

Infrastructure for Accessibility

An inclusive school is also physically accessible. At DPSBN, we have invested in
infrastructure to ensure children with special needs can move around the campus comfortably
and safely. Our modifications include:
• Lifts and ramps in school buildings
• Railings in washrooms for stability
• Braille indicators for students with visual impairments
• Wheelchair provisions and wheelchair-accessible washrooms
• Two fully equipped infirmaries for medical care
• Smart classrooms in every section, allowing for visual and auditory learning
• Computer systems with JAWS software to assist students with low vision
We are also in the process of preparing two school buses to be fully wheelchair-accessible,
with ramps and wide doors for easy boarding.

Employment Inclusion

Our commitment to inclusion is not limited to students. DPSBN actively creates employment
opportunities for persons with disabilities within the school, ensuring that inclusivity is
reflected in both our student body and staff.

Inclusion as a Core Value

At DPSBN, inclusion is not simply a policy document or a box to tick—it is the very
culture and identity of our school. It informs how we teach, how we interact, how we design
our spaces, and how we view success. By valuing diversity, we not only help each child reach
their fullest potential but also prepare all our students to live and work in a world that
celebrates empathy, respect, and mutual understanding.
In our classrooms, corridors, and playgrounds, every child matters, every voice is heard, and
every achievement—big or small—is celebrated. Through our inclusive practices, we hope to
send a clear message: differences are not barriers—they are strengths that make our
school community richer, stronger, and more compassionate.
